Top ad executive joins Fairfax board

Leo Burnett Australia chief executive and Gruen Transfer regular Todd Sampson has been appointed to the board of Fairfax Media.

Mr Sampson, a panellist on the ABC television program and host of the recent TV series Redesign My Brain, replaces Sam Morgan.

“I am excited to be a part of this important company,” Mr Sampson said. “I accepted the role because I think I can make a difference.”

Mr Sampson is expected to bring “a deep knowledge of media, marketing, advertising and digital transformation” to the board, according to Fairfax chairman Roger Corbett.

Under Mr Sampson, Leo Burnett has won Agency of the Year 12 times and topped the Gunn Report’s prestigious “All Gunns Blazing” category in February this year.  The category is in recognition of brave creative ideas.

Mr Sampson is also co-creator of the Earth Hour environmental initiative.

Mr Morgan, who founded the New Zealand digital empire Trade Me, is retiring after six years on the board to pursue philanthropic and other business interests.

“Sam has made an outstanding contribution to the board and to the company’s strategic thinking. We will miss him,” Mr Corbett said.
