Thomson returns as News NT general manager

Greg Thomson has been appointed general manager, Northern Territory, at News Corp Australia.

He returns to News Corp after six months as director of communications and marketing for the Department of the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory.

Mr Thomson replaces Scott James, who has left to return to Sydney for family reasons.

The move was announced this week by executive group director – commercial and operations, Jerry Harris.

“I am delighted that Greg is returning to News in this role,” Mr Harris said. “He started his career as a cadet at the NT News, and has over 14 years’ experience working for our publications in Darwin and Alice Springs.

“His knowledge and understanding of the Territory and its people will be invaluable as we develop and grow our local brands.”

The new role tops off 20 years at News and associated companies for Mr Thomson, whose career has spanned roles at the Centralian Advocate in Alice Springs, the Community Newspaper Group in Perth and the South China Morning Post.

“It’s a real pleasure to be back at News,” Mr Thomson said. “Our publications, led by the inimitable NT News, play a vital role in the community and serve the people of the Territory like no other.”

  1. This is really interesting…either this could be conflict of interest on issues NT News reports on Government issues…or Thomson could be a good NT government former employee whistleblower
