The Oz gets down to business with expanded section

The Australian has launched an expanded business section, adding a new mergers and acquisitions segment DataRoom and a gossip column Margin Call.

The new section is titled The Australian Business Review, and has been launched alongside an expanded online business page, which now features business news live blog Business Now.

Editor of The Australian Clive Mathieson said he section was returning to the name it held in the newspaper’s first edition more than 50 years ago, now with more comprehensive print and digital coverage.

“The Australian Business Review represents the future of business news, but is also grounded in the heritage of our paper and the quality business journalism that our readers know and expect,” he said.

“The section is part of our wider path of investment and development that clearly demonstrates the confidence we have in the long-term future of news media across platforms.”

Mr Mathieson acknowledged the business team’s recently acquired talent, including Eric Johnston who came from The Sydney Morning Herald’s Business Day and is now editor of The Australian Business Review, as well as markets editor David Rogers, business gossip columnist Ben Butler and business reporter Eli Greenblat.

The launch will be supported by a targeted marketing campaign with print, television, out-of-home, digital, social and PR executions. The TV spot can be viewed here.

The new section brings together The Australian’s business section and its syndicated content from The Wall Street Journal, Business Spectator, Eureka Report and The Times (UK).
