Founder and chief executive of the world’s largest communications agency WPP, Sir Martin Sorrell, will be the headline speaker at this year’s Future Forum media industry event.
Joining Mr Sorrell will be the senior vice president of strategy for News Corp in the US, Raju Narisetti.
The Future Forum will be held over two days in Sydney in September and brings together newspaper media executives and delegates from around the world for masterclasses, high-profile speakers and industry awards.
The event is hosted by The Newspaper Works.
“We have attracted a world-class speaker line-up at the Future Forum this year, which is testament to the influential role news media continues to play in the advertising and communications industry and society in general,” The Newspaper Works chief executive Mark Hollands said in a statement.
Mr Sorrell founded WPP in 1985 and now employs more than 180,000 people worldwide. WPP includes MEC, GroupM, J Walter Thompson, Ogilvy & Mather, Y&R and Mindshare.
Newspapers and magazines are more effective and more engaging than agencies often give them credit for, Mr Sorrell said in an interview with The Australian last week.
“There’s certainly data in the UK, Canada and Australia that demonstrates consumer engagement with newspapers is better than we think,” he said in the interview.
“Newspaper readers are so much more engaged, [and] it may be that we’re under-evaluating.”
Mr Sorrell will be speaking via video link at the Future Forum.
News Corp’s Raju Narisetti works with new ventures and digital acquisitions. He joined News Corp from the Washington Post Company where he was managing editor, and had previously founded and edited India’s Mint newspaper.
