The Victorian racing industry is joining forces to create an online content hub as the latest Australian sports organisation to invest in the production of news in-house.
Racing.com will bring together news from Racing Victoria, Country Racing Victoria, Flemington host Victoria Racing Club and Caulfield host Melbourne Racing Club, and is set to launch in September.
The move is part of a strategy by Racing Victoria to build a stronger, more efficient platform to enable the industry to engage with new and existing fans, and will be supported by a new consumer brand for Victorian racing to be launched ahead of the Spring Racing Carnival.
Offerings will target owners, punters and those interested in becoming involved in racing, with tools to help visitors pick the best placed horses, exclusive access to Victorian stewards reports, detailed event information and an “expansive content offering” including news and features on racing in Victoria and further afield. It will feature text, video and audio, including a mobile app.
There also are plans to offer archive vision of Victorian racing through a partnership between racing.com and Victorian racing’s digital rights holders, Telstra and TVN, as well as a live odds feed provided by Tabcorp.
The project is reported to involve more than $15 million in investment, and follows in the footsteps of other sporting bodies, such as the AFL and NRL, which have gained a significant following with their own in-house digital news sites.
