Newspaper readers love to go social

Over a four week period, 16.3 million people read news media in print or online, 13.8 million visit one of the top five social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest or Google+), and 12.8 million do both.

The duplication does not overlap completely.

Although 78 percent of news media readers use social media, 22 percent do not. That means that news media reach 3.5 million people that the top social sites won’t.

These sites have an unduplicated audience, but it’s much smaller.

Only 7 percent of visitors to these sites don’t read news media, an unduplicated audience of 975,000.
