News Corp Australia has appointed Fiona Mellor general manager of Leader Newspapers, replacing Mark Gardy who has left the company after 25 years.
Ms Mellor, the current publisher of afternoon commuter daily mX, has been with the company since 1989 and has held several senior positions including Victorian sales director of News Corp Australia, advertising director of the Herald & Weekly Times and her current role at mX.
In her new role, she will manage commercial operations for the Leader Newspapers group and be responsible for 33 Leader mastheads, which have a combined weekly readership of more than 1.3 million.
While at mX, Ms Mellor helped launch the mX app for mobile and tablet and introduced innovative print advertising solutions.
During his career at News Corp, Mr Gardy held senior roles including chief-of-staff at the Herald Sun, editor of mX in Melbourne and editor-in-chief of Leader Newspapers.
The changes will be effective as of Monday, April 28. News Corp Australia is yet to announce a successor for Ms Mellor at mX.
