Former Microsoft executive named REA CEO

Online real estate ad company REA Group has named Tracey Fellows as its new CEO, after six months searching for a replacement for Greg Ellis.

Ms Fellows is the former vice-president of Microsoft in the Asia Pacific (2011-13) and chief executive of Microsoft Australia (2007-11) and has served since 2013 as the general manager of communications at Australia Post.

REA Group, which is 60 per cent owned by News Corp Australia, has seen a recent period of strong growth.

In a statement, REA Group chairman Hamish McLennan said: “We believe that Tracey is the perfect fit for the company and we look forward to seeing her apply her leadership experience as we navigate through the next evolution of our business.”

Ms Fellows, in the same statement, said that she was excited about the opportunity to take the helm of a successful digital business.

“I’m delighted to have the chance to work with the team at REA Group. The company’s success in the digital arena is unrivalled and I look forward to contributing to the further growth and development of the business both domestically and internationally,” she said.

She will take over REA Group in September from News Corp Australia chief operating officer Peter Tonagh, who has been interim CEO of the group since Mr Ellis’s departure in December last year.

Former ANZ and KPMG executive Owen Wilson has been appointed chief financial officer. Like Ms Fellows, Mr Wilson will start in September. He is currently chief financial officer and company secretary at human resource services company, Chandler MacLeod Group.
