Fairfax’s Linnell jumps to another platform

Fairfax Media senior editorial executive Garry Linnell will move to yet another platform in 2014, as he makes the move to radio full time as part of Sydney radio station 2UE’s new breakfast line-up.

The move by Fairfax’s Australian Publishing Media director of news media, follow’s Mr Linnell’s stints as editor of Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph, director of news at the Nine Network and his editorship of the then ACP news magazine, The Bulletin.

Mr Linnell begins his radio role on January 20 alongside John Stanley.

Fairfax CEO Greg Hywood said Mr Linnell was a perfect fit for 2UE – a station owned by Fairfax.

“The first time I heard Garry on 2UE, I knew it was only a matter of time he became a more permanent part of 2UE’s line-up,” Mr Hywood said.

“Garry is a natural and has taken to the world of radio like the proverbial duck takes to the big pond that is our new multimedia world.”

Mr Hywood said he would encourage print journalists to follow Mr Linnell’s lead and look to expand their multimedia capabilities.

“We tell our journalists we want them to be more and more comfortable across all forms of media,” he said.

“Well Garry is certainly taking a leadership position on it.”

Mr Linnell will retain his position as Director of News Media, while working at 2UE, until a suitable replacement has been found.
