Michael Selden is Fairfax Media’s new national trading director for its Australian Publishing Media division.

Michael Selden has been appointed national trading director for Fairfax Media’s Australian Publishing Media division, replacing Pauls Bates who left the company for Yahoo!7 earlier this year.

The former group investment director at Bohemia will oversee Fairfax’s agency trading business and will focus on driving ad revenue by working closely with agency partners to develop new commercial opportunities.

Mr Selden will be responsible for agency trading relationships across all media platforms and will look to build on existing agency relationships while also exploring new ways to fuel revenue growth through new technologies, diverse product offerings and unique trading models.

Mr Selden, who also spent 10 years working at Ikon Communications, said he was extremely excited to be joining Fairfax.

“I’m passionate about the brands and the direction the company is headed to in the ever-evolving world in which we operate,” he said. “Opportunities like this don’t come around too often and I can’t wait to get started with the team.”

Mr Selden will report to commercial development and partnership director Kristiaan Kroon, who said Mr Selden would be a great addition to the Fairfax team.

“We are delighted that Michael has joined Fairfax. He brings a wealth of experience from his agency background with extensive knowledge of the opportunities and challenges facing Australian media agencies today,” Mr Kroon said.
