The Newspaper Works has launched a new trade advertising campaign on the latest report into old newsprint recovery rates.

Australia currently leads the United States in how much old newsprint is recycled, with 78 per cent of Australian newspapers recycled, compared to 75 per cent of US newspapers.

The campaign has launched on Mumbrella to highlight the efficiency of newspaper recycling, with numbers rising from 28 per cent just two decades earlier to 78 per cent.

The Newspaper Works CEO Mark Hollands said the $135 million investment more than 20 years ago into a de-inking plant which could recycle newspapers has proved immensely worthwhile.

“This investment has helped foster a culture of recycling of which the industry can be extremely proud,” Mr Hollands said.
