The industry has compiled newspaper recycling statistics that now extend from 1990 to present. This data helps advance recycling by making reliable national and state newspaper recycling statistics publicly available.
In the last quarter of a decade, the newspaper recycling rate in Australia has improved from 28 per cent at the start of 1990, to becoming one of the best in the world at a leading rate of 78 per cent in 2013. Considering the rapid changes that has and continues to occur within the industry as a result of the digital revolution, this is a remarkable result and demonstrates the resilience of the recycling systems and results achieved by the industry.
